Synopsis from Goodreads:

My disease is as rare as it is famous. Basically, I’m allergic to the world. I don’t leave my house, have not left my house in seventeen years. The only people I ever see are my mom and my nurse, Carla.

But then one day, a moving truck arrives next door. I look out my window, and I see him. He’s tall, lean and wearing all black—black T-shirt, black jeans, black sneakers, and a black knit cap that covers his hair completely. He catches me looking and stares at me. I stare right back. His name is Olly.

Maybe we can’t predict the future, but we can predict some things. For example, I am certainly going to fall in love with Olly. It’s almost certainly going to be a disaster.

While Reading:

Tea: Drink any type of green tea because this book will make you want to finish as soon as you pick it up. I was drinking Egyptian Mint Green Tea, it was like peppermint and green tea made a tasty lovechild.

Also, grab your furball if you have one this book is going to be an emotional one.

So, I figured before I went to see this movie, it might be a good idea to read it before I have. So, I went to get groceries and “stumbled” upon a necessity to buy this cute novel and I have zero regrets!

I read this book less than three hours, I ate this book like Godiva milk chocolate pieces! I haven’t read much contemporary romance books lately so it was a nice change of pace from my usual fantasy self. I am reviewing this for my own rambling purposes.

What I Adored:

  • I loved the illustrations and unique formatting it really brought this book to life for me. The IMing bantering, medical charts, and so much more enhanced the feeling of being there in her world.
  • The feelings Nicola Yoon wove throughout this heartbreakingly beautiful story made me want to weep, laugh, and uncontrollably smile over and over again.
  • Diverse characters!
  • Olly and his parkouring self was a favorite character of mine. He is a sweet, charming, loyal, and troubled boy next door. I really connected and felt for him whenever he was going through his family drama. Which just kept breaking my heart.
  • I adored Maddy and her reading blog posts. They were simple yet provoking. She was a very likable character and whatever she felt YOU felt it too. I loved how positive and understanding she was about her illness. She was fearless and had a wild imagination and sometimes bewildered by the outside world.
  • Cheesy romance at parts but still too cute to handle.
  • UNEXPECTED PLOT TWIST! Boy, that one had me reeling!

What I disliked:

  • A little bit of insta-love going on. But it worked really well with this book.
  • Honestly, I just am upset that there isn’t going to be a sequel, and the ending was open for many wild imaginations of what could or couldn’t happen with the characters.

Would I Recommend:

With all my heart I recommend this beautiful story! Buy on Amazon or my favorite site to get books for a snag! Thriftbooks

Let me know your thoughts on this novel! Did you like the ending? I don’t bite(:

  1. I’ve been thinking about reading this ever since I saw the trailer for the movie! Your review makes me want to move it up on my TBR list 🙂 I’m also obsessed with your tea recommendations for each book. So cute and original!
